Hi friends–you can now find my writing over at Medium. There are a few reasons for this; this story was one of them, though shortly after it was published, WordPress was good enough to ban the sort of blogs in question. But the other reason is that these days, Medium seems to be the place to be doing the sort of short-form writing that I do, and if there’s anything I like, it’s following the trend. Abbi Waxman’s Other People’s Houses is a novel built on the premise that you never really know what’s going on with your neighbors, even in a peaceful, affluent L.A. neighborhood. Despite the charming, precocious children and manicured lawns and high-end minivans, things are not always what they seem. People have affairs, drink too much, say […]
Hi, I’m thirty and I don’t know what I’m doing with my life! I don’t feel chill about it! Let me rewind a bit. Right now, my husband is in the middle of nursing school and I work to support both of us. This is an exciting time for us, or at least I’ve been […]

I’m struggling with writing regularly lately, so I thought I’d take a freebie and give you a scattershot of what I’ve been ~planning~ to write about and then never getting around to. Here we go. Two weeks ago was JD’s and my two-year wedding anniversary. During the weeks leading up to it, I was filled […]
Something I’ve noticed about living in Chicago is that a lot of people who moved here from elsewhere remember and commemorate the date of their move. I have no data to back it up, but that’s probably common among people who lived in small towns and came to a big, vibrant city in their young […]
If you have a period, you probably have a few period horror stories. Do you want to hear some of mine? Here they come. Apologies in advance. Middle School is Great I am twelve years old and in the sixth grade. I’ve had a few periods before, but they’ve been the chill kind, where you just have […]
